The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires employers to have a strategy to evacuate all occupants within a building. The legislation implements a risk-based approach to fire safety in community, industrial and business premises and requires the employer, owner or occupier (known as the 'responsible person') to carry out a fire safety risk assessment and implement appropriate fire precautionary and protection measures, and to maintain a fire management plan.
As part of the Fire Management Plan, businesses should provide a sufficient number of nominated Fire Marshalls/Wardens who will have undergone the appropriate training to fulfil their role. Aside from taking charge of the evacuation of people from a premises the identification of fire hazards is key to successful fire prevention. This theoretical course (with an optional practical session) is designed for individuals who have been designated as a fire marshal or fire warden and have specific duties towards fire prevention and evacuation.
Wherever possible hands-on practical fire extinguisher demonstrations will be carried out outside following a suitable risk assessment; therefore delegates are advised to bring suitable outdoor clothing and footwear.
Delegates who successfully pass this course will be awarded a TTS 'Fire Marshall/Warden' Certificate which will be valid for 3 years.
